Program Overview: Sustainable Cities and Transport
At the WRI
India Ross Center, we aim to tackle urban challenges through integrated
solutions, leveraging applied research, hands-on advice, and a network of
global experts. Our goal is to drive transformative initiatives that can change
Indian cities into sustainable and healthy urban environments. The Healthy
Cities for Adolescents (HCA) program is one such initiative focused on
enhancing adolescent well-being through community-centered interventions.
Role Overview: GeoAnalytics Intern
As a
GeoAnalytics Intern, you will be a key member of the WRI India Ross Centre for
Sustainable Cities GeoAnalytics team. You will support various projects by
conducting data-driven analyses, transforming data into actionable insights,
and helping design solutions that facilitate sustainable urban growth. The role
involves working with technical experts and project teams across India,
providing geospatial insights that contribute to smarter urban planning.
Key Responsibilities
1.
Research & Analysis:
·
Conduct data exploration, quantitative research, and provide
customized analytical solutions to support project needs.
·
Work with project teams to assess and organize complex data sets
for spatial modeling.
·
Develop and execute scripts using Python and Google Earth
Engine for data acquisition, processing, and analysis.
·
Provide expertise in geospatial analyses and visualizations
to staff and partners as needed.
2.
Technical Support & Outreach:
·
Develop data visualization dashboards, interactive web-maps,
and storyboards that communicate complex data in a visually engaging manner.
·
Prepare professional visualizations for use in presentations,
publications, and digital platforms.
Skills & Qualifications Required
Educational
Background:
·
Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Earth
Sciences, Geomatics, Geoinformatics, Remote Sensing, or related fields. A Master’s
degree is preferred.
Technical Skills:
·
GIS Software Proficiency: Experience with ESRI ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS
Server, ArcGIS Online, Quantum GIS, or MapInfo.
·
Coding Experience: Proficiency in Python, R, or JavaScript
for data analysis and geospatial tasks.
·
Google Earth Engine: Experience is a strong advantage for this
role.
·
Spatial Analysis & Modeling: Familiarity with tools such as ArcGIS
Spatial Analyst, Model Builder, and SQL.
·
Data Management: Ability to handle publicly available GIS
datasets, remote sensing databases, and crowd-sourcing platforms like
OpenStreetMap.
Soft Skills:
·
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
·
Effective communication to present complex data clearly.
·
Team Collaboration: Ability to work with diverse teams across
various projects.
Internship Location & Details:

Location: Delhi, Bengaluru, or Mumbai, India.
·
Duration: 3 to 6 Months
·
