The Opportunity

This internship spans six months, from January 2024 to June 2024. As a Support Engineer Intern, you will contribute by providing system-level pre and post-sales support to Ciena's customer base. This includes tasks such as answering customer calls, testing, troubleshooting, and offering remote technical support for Ciena products. An understanding of network management systems, data communications protocols (including Ethernet and IP networks), and fiber optic transport and switching protocols is advantageous.

Your responsibilities will include:

Answering customer calls, documenting information for technical investigations.
Providing prompt and professional remote technical support via various communication channels.
Troubleshooting and resolving platform and configuration issues.
Being available for on-call duties, including public holidays and weekends when required.
Escalating issues to senior engineers when necessary.
Contributing to the technical knowledge base (KCS).

Understanding of telecommunications systems, Optical Networking, and basic computer knowledge.

Good to Have

Experience in a customer-facing role is beneficial. Knowledge in network management systems, network protocols (e.g., SNMP), performance monitoring tools, Operating Systems, databases, and microservices, as well as fiber optic transport and switching equipment, is an asset.

Education

Ciena is looking for candidates with a bachelor's degree in a technical field (e.g. Engineering, Computer Science) from a four-year college or university. Zero to three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
