WADIA INSTITUTE OF HIMALAYAN GEOLOGY
(An Autonomous Institution of Dept. of Science & Technology, Govt. of India)
33, General Mahadeo Singh Road
DEHRA DUN – 248001
Under
the Government of India approved scheme, Wadia Institute of
Himalayan Geology (WIHG), Dehra Dun is operating the “Centre for
Glaciology”, which is likely to
eventually usher into an independent “National Centre for Himalayan Glaciology” under the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. Major objective of the Centre is to mount a coordinated research initiative on Himalayan glaciers to understand the factors controlling the effects of climate on glaciers. The three-fold action plan includes: (i) To establish flagship field station for carrying out high quality meteorological, hydrological, sediment transfer as well as mass balance and glacier dynamic studies to establish
inter linkages between various forcing factors. (ii) Document and understand long-term glacier-climate interactions in the Himalaya through laboratory based, chronological
constrained studies on sediment records including ice-core (iii) To create manpower through training program in India and abroad to take up research in challenging areas of glaciers. To achieve the projected targets and to develop trained manpower and achieve major scientific goals in these challenging areas of glaciology, the Institute invites applications from eligible Indian nationals for the following positions:
