Job Summary
Engineering QA Manager - Functional Test, Continuous Product Engineering

Job Summary:
As a Manager of system test in CPE you will manage Engineering professionals and outsourced partners within the function. You direct activities of Engineers and teams, focused on debugging NetApp software products through the use of systematic tests to develop, apply, and maintain quality standards for NetApp products. These committed teams develop, modify, and execute software test plans; analyze and write test standards and procedures; maintain documentation of results; and consult with development engineers in resolution of problems. As part of the Research and Development function, the overall focus of the group is on competitive market and customer requirements, technology advances, product quality, product cost and time-to-market.
Essential Functions:
- Accountable for System Testing for all ONTAP releases - test planning and development, test execution, reporting, automation framework, process, strategy, outcomes, cost.
- A major part of your responsibility will be to provide direction and supervision to the team of Engineers responsible for gathering system test requirements, developing new stress/scale scenarios, implementing and executing test plans, Test scripts, test reports, test metrics
- Drive interface with customer upstream organizations like development and NetApp wide system test teams
-Create the strategy for System Test (including plans for enhancing test productivity, induction of tools and technology to achieve desired results)
- Interface with Common Test Lab for CPE QA requirements
- Drive standards for system test regression and automation with the BU QA teams.
- Establish operational objectives, budgets and work plans
- Develop and build senior technical talent in the team, be responsible for key decisions related to outsourcing
- Responsible for defining, driving key metrics implementation to measure success
Requirements:
- Ability to contribute at a first line manager level, with focus on execution and operational excellence, enhancing effectiveness of the test organization in CPE.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, critical projects and building strong test teams is required.
- Experience of leading QA teams and managers in a fast paced, dynamic Product Organization is a must. Exposure to Functional, Regression and System testing is preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
- A clear understanding of the product development cycle, technical requirements, and project management.
- Experience in software test planning, test documentation and process improvement.
- Experience with developing budgets and predicting project costs.
- A demonstrated ability to manage junior engineers as well as technical leads.
- Exposure to Storage technology is an added advantage.
- Ability to work in a highly dynamic product organization environment.

- Utilizes people skills and available people manager tools to critically impact the growth of an individual within the company and career.
- This individual must demonstrate favorable results through providing leadership to the function.
- Develop proposed budgets for approval and assure adherence once budget is approved.
- Take responsibility for results, including costs, methods and staffing.

Education & Experience:
- A minimum of 12+ years of experience in the high tech industry and a minimum of 3 years as a people manager for test teams / QA, is required. 

- A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, a Master Degree, or a PhD; or equivalent experience is required.
Requirements:
- Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
- A clear understanding of the product development cycle, technical requirements, and project management.
- A strong understanding of concepts related to computer architecture, data structures and programming practices.
- Experience in software test planning, documentation and process improvement.
- Experience with developing budgets and predicting project costs.
- A demonstrated ability to manage professional level employees.

- This individual will apply attained experience and knowledge to address issues that are diverse in scope, and resolve problems through short- and mid-term planning.

- This individual must work effectively with staff to vice president level employees and employees within and outside of their department and function.
- Utilizes people skills and available manager tools to positively impact the development of subordinates within their role and career.
- This individual must demonstrate favorable results through providing leadership to function and to staff.

Education & Experience:
- A minimum of 8 years of experience as an individual contributor and 1 to 5 years as a people manager is required. 

- A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, a Master Degree, or a PhD; or equivalent experience is required.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects is required.
